Important key things to remember:
Floss at least once a day to prevent gum tissue irritation, swelling, and cavities.
Brush at least twice a day. Although brushing after every meal is ideal.
Avoid:
- Sticky and hard foods such as
caramel, jolly ranchers, nuts, ice, and pretzels.
- Fruits such as apples and carrots should be cut into small sizes.
- Chewy foods that you bite in and pull such as pizza, bagels, beef jerky should be
cut into small size pieces
so they do not pull on your braces.
By avoiding these, you are protecting your orthodontic appliances from breaking.
Remember that broken appliances will lengthen
treatment time!
Reminder: Continue to see your regular dentist at least every 6 months for your routine cleaning and checking for cavities during your orthodontia.
